Foundation Helps Special Olympics World

Games Delegations

The Foundation donated 170 water bottles for the Special Olympics

World Games delegations that stayed on the Cal Poly Pomona

campus from Tuesday, July 21 through the morning of Friday,

July 24.

The cities of Pomona and Chino Hills hosted 200 delegates for the

Special Olympics World Games. The athletes and their supporters

(trainers, chaperons, and aides) stayed in the Residential Suites at

Cal Poly Pomona.

Various Cal Poly Pomona departments across campus invested in

this experience for the 170 delegation members which included

in-kind donations of athletic fields, housing accommodations,

and dining.

University Village Lends Pool for Cardboard

Boat Regatta

In late July, Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering students from

the University of Ulsan in Korea, who are studying English at the Cal

Poly English Language Institute, designed and constructed cardboard

boats as part of a school project.

This event, appropriately titled the Cardboard Boat Regatta, featured

ten people-size boats that the students were required to test. For

two hours, the students tried out their cardboard boats by situating

themselves in their creations and paddling across the University

Village pool. The results were both impressive and humorous to

watch.
